Internships

Students enrolled in the Master’s Degree in African and Asian Studies have the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship in order to gain work experience. The internship is recognised for 6 CFU and can be included among the free-choice credits in the study plan. There is a monthly expense reimbursement of 280 euros. For details on how to activate the curricular traineeship, please refer to the link: https://portale.unipv.it/it/didattica/servizi-lo-studente/tirocini.

In particular, SAA students can carry out a curricular internship alongside the organisation of SAA Degree Course activities (Summer School, scientific seminars and events, social media management, etc.): https://orienta.unipv.it/studia/vuoi-fare-un-tirocinio-curriculare/servizio/tirocini-curriculari-ateneo.

The Master’s Degree Course in African and Asian Studies offers the opportunity to take part in the Erasmus Traineeship call for applications for a traineeship period abroad (from 2 to 12 months). The programme envisages a scholarship with a variable amount depending on the country of destination. Students can also access the possibility of spending a period of internship (150 hours in total) at the editorial office of Nigrizia magazine. The monthly magazine on Africa and the black world. The magazine, one of the very few that covers African current affairs in Italian, deals with political, economic and social issues concerning the continent. Here is the link to Nigrizia’s web page: http://www.nigrizia.it/. The trainee will work alongside the person in charge of the online section of the magazine in the daily press review activity, which consists of reviewing articles on Africa from the main Italian and foreign press agencies, on the topical issues of the day, and reformulating into short articles (flash news) the news considered most important or of greatest interest to the magazine. In addition, the trainee will be given the opportunity to write short articles on topics agreed with the editorial staff, of interest to the magazine and to the trainee himself/herself, which will be published, after review by the manager, on the online section of the magazine.

The trainee, therefore, will not only have the opportunity to participate in editorial life, which will enable him/her to understand the functioning and management of a specialised magazine, as well as provide him/her with a number of computer skills in relation to the use of tools useful for the management of the online section of the magazine, but will also be able to put his/her academic and professional skills into practice, actively contributing to the production of information on the African continent. The trainee will receive an expense reimbursement of up to EUR 250, which can be used to cover travel (train, bus) and food expenses. Reimbursement of expenses will be paid by the University at the end of the placement period. The trainee must therefore keep the receipts of expenses so that they can be accounted for by the administration once the traineeship period is over. With regard to accommodation, on the other hand, the Comboni Fathers will provide the trainee with a room (including bathroom) within their structure, below the premises of the editorial office, for a symbolic donation to the Foundation.

Finally, the Master’s Degree Course in African and Asian Studies also offers the opportunity to take part in the MAECI-MIUR-CRUI calls for applications for curricular internships at Italy’s diplomatic offices abroad (Embassies, Consular Offices, Permanent Representations and Italian Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation). The new notices are published in the news section of the University of Pavia website (http://news.unipv.it/). Here is the link to the MAECI-MIUR-CRUI internships web page: http://www.tirocinicrui.it/.
